Captain E has always lived in the shadow of his super star mum, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde. A large part of people who know the Ekeinde family think all of Captain E's accomplishments have been achieved because of his mothers fame and not his hard work. In this single Captain E addresses those thoughts and speaks his truth. This is the first new single from Captain E in a year, following the release of his last single “Bad Girl”, in February 2021. “Competent Enough” is the lead single from Captain E’s forthcoming LP titled “Black Box”, which hasn’t yet been given a release date.

Like much of Captain E’s work his lyrics hold a deeper meaning below the surface, diving deep into issues that affects the artist deeply. “Competent Enough” blends elements of Afrobeats, pop, electronic dance music and rock to create a unique sound and atmosphere for its listeners.
